Counselling

Sometimes we don't understand and cannot properly process deep feelings and emotions. Counselling helps to untangle those deep feelings and brings understanding and relief from confusion and pain.

Life can be challenging at times. I provide a safe and private space to explore your thoughts and feelings, gaining insight, perspective and coping strategies for a happier and more fulfilled life.

How Can Talking Help?

When I say ‘talking therapy’, it’s not just talking.

Yes, there is benefit from getting out what is inside, or catharsis as it’s sometimes known, and it can make you feel better. “Getting it off your chest”.

However…

The purpose of talking therapy is to gain insight into the “why’s” of your unwanted thinking/behaviour. Why am I still doing that thing that way? Why do I keep making the same mistakes? Why do I not feel happy, or satisfied?

Understanding why you do what you, internally, is the first step of changing that part of you.

When I work with counselling clients, we speak about the past, the present - “mapping”, as I call it. Where are you right now, and where you have been (experience wise and emotionally)?

With this insight, together a client and I look at how life would look if it were much better, which leaves the simple planning process of “what needs to change/what needs let go of/what could be done differently”… And then how we go about that.

I don’t “fix” anyone. Ever. People heal who are ready to heal, I simply play the role of guide. A bit like a Sherpa at the bottom of a mountain.

“Happiness? It’s that way.”

Providing some additional ongoing guidance, before you know it the parts of you that you no longer wish to be part of your life are gone, and life feels easier and happier.

Walk and Talk

Counselling...it can be scary to sit face to face with someone and express what's inside, especially if those feelings and thoughts are deeply personal.

Walk and Talk counselling provides an opportunity to explore and express what's inside without the pressure that some may feel from a sit down counselling session.

These sessions are longer than regular counselling sessions giving ample time to chat, tangent and return to topic, alongside being able to enjoy the benefits and all the good feelings that come with being in the beautiful surroundings of the Scottish Borders countryside or Berwick upon Tweed's historic town walls and estuary.
